Robert Taylor

Mr. Taylor’s ashes were interred at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Ursula Thiess’ ashes are now with his.

I became a Robert Taylor fan at the age of 15 when his TV show, "The Detectives" premiered. My mother wanted to watch it because she remembered Mr. Taylor from the thirties. I took one look and that was it. I spent the rest of my high school career watching Robert Taylor movies on late night TV, buying photos of him, making scrapbooks and being a typical teenager. College, marriage and career intervened. I remember being sad when Mr. Taylor died. I mailed two huge scrapbooks to Ursula Thiess. I hope she got them. Time passed, retirement, moving to Florida. Then in 2012 my husband Fred pointed that there were two Robert Taylor movies that evening on Turner Classic Movies--"Ivanhoe" and "Quentin Durward." I watched both and it happened all over again. I started this blog both for fans and for people who didn't know about Robert Taylor. As the blog passes 200,000 views I'm delighted that so many people have come by and hope it will help preserve the legacy of this fine actor and equally good man.

I wish I would’ve checked for his resting place when I was in LA a few years ago.
My BF and I made the rounds to Westwood Cemetary, Hollywood Forever, and Forest Lawn Cemetary. Armed myself with a huge list of various actors’/directors’/musicians’ graves (Rudolph Valentino, Tyrone Power, John Cassavetes, Andy Gibb, many, many others), but couldn’t find HIS for some reason! Forest Lawn is just so sprawling!
I live in Austin, TX and went to LA for a comedy festival (or so my BF thought). MY main goal was to visit and lay flowers at my favorite stars’ final resting place.
Hopefully will go back soon and find sweet Robert’s site. I’ll be sure to bring a bouquet. He was so talented, smart, and beautiful! So missed. 😦

I just read a review of Gillian Kelly’s book on Amazon by Dr. Judith E. Hanhisalo… well that review very well covered the problems with that book, which I tossed aside after finding so many inaccuracies. The Schickel evaluation is very correct, and hopefully will be in another book about Taylor….so a long and varied career of movies, and how he touched his fans…through the years (as a small boy with Mom and Dad watching his movies) till now (getting very old) people discover him and love him…it is interesting how the left of now concentrates on the HUAC appearance… and how it is important now…his front page obit in the New York Times doesn’t even mention it. Taylor named one name, a name that had been named (he was very careful after the deceit of the earlier meeting with HUAC) …the other names he mentioned were in relation to SAG (Screen Actor Meetings) ….the name he did mention was Lester Cole who wrote The High Wall, Taylor had just starred in. Cole’s name was all over…I spoke to Cole at Filmex in Los Angeles in 1980. He told me the story of the enthusiasm Taylor and MGM had because of hte success of High Wall and Taylors review, he told me directly, “I didn’t care about the friendly witnesses, I hated the rats”….There were many other stars who named, names, and studio executives, but they are forgotten, Taylor was/is still a name …that is why the left never sleeps….anyway to ridicule anyone who doesn’t agree with them, at anytime. Thank God Taylor didn’t ………….
