Three Robert Taylor Films Are Playing on June 18th on TCM (USA)

Many Rivers to Cross (1955) is playing on Turner Classic Movies on Tue, June 18, 2013 07:45 AM est. Closed Captioned.RT943

This is simply a charming , funny movie . Robert Taylor is exceptionally good – as is the supporting cast in general. Well-made Western comedies seem few and far between .
The movie was not well publicized upon its release as I recall , nor was it rated as top flight.  It’s hardly ever seen on television. The film can easily be described as wholesome – a rarity more today than back in the 50’s . Its tone and style reflect the mood of the times.
By all means, catch it if you can . By ttlankf3 (Maryland) on the IMDB

As an ex-pupil of Ann’s father Mark accepts and the two embark on a search for the tomb of the Pharoah Ra Hotep, said to have had some connection with Joseph. The trail to the tomb is fraught with intrigue, betrayal, murder and the possibility that the tomb itself has been emptied of all its artifacts by ancient looters. RT2942The story of Colonel Paul Tibbets, the pilot of the Enola Gay, the bomber that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Although unaware of the full potential of this new weapon, he knows that it is capable of doing tremendously more damage than any other weapon used before, and that the death toll resulting from it will be enormous. He is reluctant to be the person who will end so many lives, but if using it may bring an end to the war, then not doing so may result in even more lives being lost in continued ground assaults as the fighting goes on. At the same time, the intense secrecy surrounding this mission leaves him with no one he can express his thoughts and doubts to, not even his wife. As time goes on, the pressure upon him only increase. Jean-Marc Rocher (rocher@fiberbit.net) on the IMDB.

About giraffe44

I became a Robert Taylor fan at the age of 15 when his TV show, "The Detectives" premiered. My mother wanted to watch it because she remembered Mr. Taylor from the thirties. I took one look and that was it. I spent the rest of my high school career watching Robert Taylor movies on late night TV, buying photos of him, making scrapbooks and being a typical teenager. College, marriage and career intervened. I remember being sad when Mr. Taylor died. I mailed two huge scrapbooks to Ursula Thiess. I hope she got them. Time passed, retirement, moving to Florida. Then in 2012 my husband Fred pointed that there were two Robert Taylor movies that evening on Turner Classic Movies--"Ivanhoe" and "Quentin Durward." I watched both and it happened all over again. I started this blog both for fans and for people who didn't know about Robert Taylor. As the blog passes 200,000 views I'm delighted that so many people have come by and hope it will help preserve the legacy of this fine actor and equally good man.
