In the fall of 1963 Jerry Lewis gave a huge party called the “Think Pink.” His wife Patty was expecting their sixth child and they really wanted a girl. They already had five boys. The room was elaborately decorated in pink and the guests danced to popular music, especially the Twist. It’s hard to imagine Robert and Ursula Taylor there, but they were. There were at least 110 tables and they are at table 3.
In this photo, which looks like a Polaroid, Robert Taylor seems to be asking Ursula Thiess if she wouldn’t like to get out of there. She’s aware of the photographer, he’s not.
In this one, Mr. Taylor is hoisting their gift basket. He doesn’t look thrilled about it. Ursula Thiess is more interested. Rows of unclaimed baskets are in the back. Maybe they left early. I can’t imagine them doing the Twist.
The following January, Mrs. Lewis had another boy. Jerry Lewis was very unhappy about it and reportedly didn’t treat Joseph well. Joseph Lewis died of a drug overdose in October of 2009.
There is a video of some of the party on You Tube. Look under Think Pink Party Jerry Lewis.
I can’t imagine the Taylors doing the twist either, or even going to this party. He doesn’t seem to be enjoying it. As if “thinking pink” could determine the sex of a child! I guess it was a case of any excuse for a party, or going to any party to get some publicity as advised by one’s agent. And the idea of the “muscular dystrophy hero” mistreating his son for not being a daughter!
By the way, the current Wikipedia bio of Robert Taylor lists him as having an actress granddaughter, Mary Taylor. Looked up the Australian actor to see if this might be his granddaughter. Was not aware that RT had any grandchildren. Are there any that you know of?

I’ve run into Maria Silvana Taylor before. She is a singer and is South American. If you look her up it claims that Mr. Taylor is her grandfather or great-grandfather. If she is related to him, it would have to be through Terry. His wife is South American. Do you know whether Terry had children? I don’t think Tessa has. BTW, that really didn’t look like Robert Taylor’s kind of party. Good to hear from you.

When Linda Alexander had her Robert Taylor Movie Star site, several years ago someone asked if there were any Taylor grandchildren & she said there were not.

Dianne, thanks for telling me this. I was going to ask Linda. I re-edited the Wikipedia article. Something recently put in a lot of inaccurate stuff about the HUAC hearings and I toned it down and made it more accurate. I also took out Mary. Whether or not they’ll let my changes stand, I don’t know. All the best, Judith
