This is one of the strangest things I’ve ever seen on ebay. I wasn’t the winning bidder but I can pass it on in this form. It’s probably the worst written English I’ve ever seen. But it’s fun–and somebody really did love Robert Taylor

A Tribute To Robert Taylor
by Donald P. Holt
It always gives me a great deal of pleasure to pay tribute to one who has through their courage, stick-to-it-iveness and faith in themselves. He rose above the pettiness of the masses, and laugh and jeers and insults, and conquer seemingly impossible obstinacy, and eventually to reach the most cherished goal…fame and fortune.
And so to you Robert Taylor…I pay homage and honor you for your achievement. In the reaching of the goal that you set out to make.
Being as handsome as you are, you were subjected to many caustic remarks from the editors and reviewers, as well as from the fans themselves. They said that all you could play was the parts that showed you as the man about town, the bon vivant that the girls went completely ga ga.
I have just come from seeing you in Stand Up and Fight.
And so now I want to stand up and cheer, for you certainly convinced the gullible thousands of fans about your being able to do something besides that of being an arrow collar ad, or just that of a handsome profile. Here you proved that you are a real he man, that you can take it as well as give it. And so I say orchids to you for making us realize what a brilliant actor you are. Give us more of your subtle and powerful characterizations. They sure are something to see, and provide us with many happy and blissfully contented hours of superb entertainment.
Buys House for Mother
Speaking of houses, Robert Taylor has bought an eight-room place in Westwood for his mother, Mrs. S.A. Brugh, and his grandmother.

Taylor Weds Barbara, Makes ‘Love” To Hedy
(taken from a newspaper)
Robert Taylor, the idol of many a feminine heart who was married over the week-end to Barbara Stanwyck in a surprise elopement to San Diego, bemoaned his lot as an actor today:
“Here I am married,” he complained, “and I’ve got to be back to work making love to another woman.”
Taylor is working with Hedy LaMarr in a film production, and as soon as that is finished must go on location to Payette Lake, Idaho for another picture. Miss Stanwyck is making a picture at another studio.
“We can’t possibly honeymoon until some time next summer,” they said. The couple disclosed to newspapers they decided to be married two weeks ago. “We simply took the first free moment we had for the ceremony,” they explained.
San Diego’s Municipal Judge Phil Smith performed the ceremony in the living room of the home of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Whelan, long time friends of the couple. The pair arrived just before midnight Saturday, but neither Taylor nor Miss Stanwyck wanted to begin married life under the auspices of the hoodoo number—May 13—so the ceremony began at 12:20 a.m. Yesterday. It lasted just five minutes.
The marriage was the first for Taylor. Miss Stanwyck obtained a divorce three years ago from Frank Fay, also an actor. She has custody of their adopted son, Dion, now enrolled in a Los Angeles military school.
A Tribute to Bob and Barbara Taylor
by Donald P. Holt
I have only great admiration for those who have the courage of their conviction, whether it be in the business world of doing something that everyone else is laughing at you, and are certain of your failure, or whether a boy or a girl, very much in love and knowing that they can find much worth whileness up ahead in their celestial happiness, defy the cynical prophesies and discouraging to take that chance for what the gods may hold in store for them.
And so to you Robert Taylor—handsome and sagacious—and to your gorgeous and brilliant Barbara Stanwyck, I pay homage and adore and admire you both for grabbing what happiness you can, and being so ecstatically joyful in that which is now yours…so precious and made by you both so completely beautiful.
For out there in Hollywood everything is against you. They deal you from the bottom of the pack. They don’t believe in any one being happy. Not being able to be happy themselves, they just can’t stand by and see any one else in that lovely frame of mind. And they spread malicious lies about those they know possess something that they would give their all to have.
But I know that the love and faith that you both have for each other will be able to overcome these obstacles, and that it will be able to stand vicious gossip and jealous barbs.
And that through the coming months in your beautiful Paradise you will achieve a complete realization of your fondest hopes and dreams.

What Is a Friend?
What is a friend? A friend is the one person in all this life with whom you dare to be yourself…the one person you can neither buy nor replace for his value is inestimable and the tie that binds you to him stronger than the bonds of blood. With him you may take your ease….your very soul can go naked before him for he asks of you to put on nothing….only be what you are. You can breathe freely. If there are contradictions in your nature that lead others to misjudge, he understands. He asks you to be neither better nor worse, but reaches with calm fingers into the small pockets of your heart and crawls up into the radiance that others have never reached quite deep enough to find.
His understanding goes to meet you….eagerly as a child running. He sees you face to face and soul to soul in love. You don’t have to be cautious. You can loosen your collar. You can admit your little quirks, your petty hates and vicious sparks….your prejudice, your meanness—and your deepest dreams. He understands. He makes of the music of your life not a discord but a joyous melody of the words of your days not a reproach but a song, and of the lumber of your life….a quiet sunset becomes a glimpse of the infinite made clear—focused with the the glasses of reality. He likes you. He likes you because you are you. If you neglect him, he makes no protest. If you abuse him, he accepts without complaint: if you tolerate him, he takes that too. It makes no difference. He is constant. He is the cleansing fire that purifies your deepest thoughts. Laughing, crying, living or dying you are one in thought, in action and in soul.
And he makes you one without a word and without a touch, without a sign and through it all he sees, understands and likes—you–no matter what you do. A friend, then, is one with whom you dare to be yourself.

Weird & incomprehensible (at least to me). Also, this person liked “Lucky Night,” which I thought, both times I saw it, was awful.

I’m sorry you’re having trouble–I have no idea how to fix it but thanks for perservering. Lucky Night is not one of my favorites–it really drags. The newsletter is so strange–I think one person did it and all the other names are made up–I mean, Helen Troy? But it’s an interesting historical artifact. Thanks for writing.
