Flight Command was the movie that got Robert Taylor hooked on flying. He began to spend all of his spare time at airfields, took flying lessons and became a qualified pilot. Barbara Stanwyck said it was an obsession and recommended that he see the studio psychiatrist, which he did briefly. When WWII began he was trained as a pilot instructor and instructed many students both in person and through his 17 training films. After the war the studio gave him the use of a twin engine Beechcraft that he called Missy, after Stanwyck. Robert Taylor gave up flying in the late 1950’s.
